We’ve had a busy month since the launch of the API Centre™ on 23 May. The centre is really starting to take shape thanks to our new and growing API-enabled community.
Here’s a quick update on what’s been happening since launch day.
Who else has joined?
In addition to the seven API Providers (banks) and two Third Party organisations that we announced as foundation Standards Users at the launch, we’ve now also welcomed Paymark, Mastercard, Split Payments, Merco and MiMaii as registered Third Party Standards Users. For the full list, see our Current Standards Users. We’ve also welcomed our first individual Community Contributors.
Work kicking off
We recently met with our newly formed API Centre Technical Working Group, made up of representatives from our registered Standards User organisations. This group has picked up where the project working group left off. They will be progressing version 2.0 of the current standards.
Our Business Working Group and the API Council will also meet for the first time over the next month.
API Council appointments
We’re pleased to have appointed our first independent members of the API Council. They are Terese Tunnicliffe who will take on the role of Chair, Jessica Venning-Bryan, and our Payments NZ Board Chair Jim Quinn. We’re looking forward to the experience, skills, diversity and strong leadership qualities these three independent members will bring to the council.
The council is beginning to take shape and we expect to be able to make some further announcements in the coming weeks.
Ways to get involved
Remember there’s a couple of ways to get involved in the API Centre, depending on whether you want to provide or use APIs, or just test against the API standards.
Organisations can apply to become an API Provider or Third Party Standards User. Registered Standards Users can then form partnerships with each other and technically connect using our API standards as part of their customer innovations.
Or individuals can join as a Community Contributor, which is designed for developers, API practitioners, or organisations not quite ready to be a Standards User.
Becoming a Community Contributor is a great entry level way to get involved with the standards. Community Contributors get access to our independent sandbox so you can keep developing and testing your solution against the standards in preparation before partnering. Our sandbox will always contain the most up-to-date version of the standards. You’ll also be able to contribute to standards development with access to ‘release candidate’ versions before they’re published, which you can comment on.
